Abstract

This comparative study aimed to analyze the nature and composition of Salafist groups (Islamic and Jewish) in Arab and Israeli societies, focusing on exploring their political and educational activities and the position of the ruling political systems towards them in both societies. The study found that Salafist groups in both societies are divided into two main categories: a hardline faction that tends to isolate itself from society, and a moderate faction that is fully engaged in public and political work. The moderate groups in both contexts pursue a common goal of establishing a religious state through similar means, including forming political parties, participating in parliamentary elections, and undertaking various educational activities such as establishing their own religious schools and institutes. The fundamental difference lies in the state's attitude; while the "Muslim Brotherhood," as a model of moderate Salafism in Arab countries (Egypt and Yemen), faces exclusion, repression, and political exploitation by the ruling regimes , its counterparts in Israel enjoy extensive government support, significant political and educational influence, and the ability to directly impact decision-making, even within sovereign institutions like the military, granting them far greater power and influence.
