The Evolution of Western Governments' Political Positions on the Palestinian Issue Following the Al-Aqsa Flood

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the evolution of Western policies and positions on the Palestinian issue following the 'Al-Aqsa Flood' of October 7, 2023. This event emerged from 75 years of injustice under the Zionist occupation of Palestine, characterized by persistent violations of Palestinian rights, desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and expansion of Jewish settlements. Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology, the study reveals that Western policy has remained largely static and disconnected from ethical standards, human rights, and principles of justice, particularly concerning the genocide perpetrated by the Zionist forces post-Al-Aqsa Flood. However, it notes that some nations, such as Spain and Norway, have adopted more equitable policies. The study also highlights the United Nations Security Council's paralysis, largely due to the U.S. veto, in passing resolutions to halt the war in Gaza despite global appeals. It concludes that a just and lasting peace is contingent upon the establishment of a fully sovereign Palestinian state.
