The Legal System of the International Seabed Authority

The seas and oceans make up about 71% of the Earth's surface, playing a crucial role in communication between peoples and the development of civilizations, as well as being a major source of food. However, these maritime areas have become competitive zones among major powers since the Middle Ages. This study focuses on the importance of the international seabed area due to its massive deposits of minerals and oil. The research is divided into three main sections that discuss the concept and functions of the International Seabed Authority, the legal status of this authority, and the resolution of seabed-related disputes. Additionally, the study reviews the various bodies and functions of the International Seabed Authority and the challenges it faces in achieving its goals, including marine environmental protection and ensuring fair use of resources.
